ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY AT APELOA
Apeloa CDMO has developed advanced EHS strategies that set it apart from the competition. With a large annual investment in EHS, Apeloa CDMO is well positioned to remain at the forefront of Environmental Health & Safety practices in the API, Intermediate, and Registered Starting Materials (RSMs) business. Having successfully completed numerous global pharma customer EHS audits, Apeloa CDMO has clearly demonstrated its focus on protecting people, products, and the environment.
APELOA CDMO EHS STRATEGY
Through continuous investment, Apeloa CDMO has built an industry leading organization with high EHS standards. This translates into high quality products, produced by a safe workforce in well-designed facilities using practices that also safeguard the environment. We regularly perform risk analysis to identify areas for potential improvement to our EHS system.
EHS FACILITY STRATEGIES
Apeloa CDMO plans and implements EHS improvements at the facility level across its network. Apeloa advocates for low and zero emission of pollutants and takes the approach of “waste resource recycling”. Apeloa CDMO has built wastewater treatment capabilities for as much as 50,000 metric tons of waste per day. We have also deployed Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO) for the incineration of 30,000 m3/hour of gas waste. Wastewater from our facilities is incinerated in quantities as large as 75 metric tons per day. Our facilities are encouraged to always operate in a socially responsible manner in accordance with Apeloa values and per our EHS strategy.
EHS LAWS & REGULATIONS
Apeloa CDMO has been assessing its compliance with ISO14001:2015 and its environmental management program. It requires regular assessment of all manufacturing departments and formulates environmental control procedures accordingly. New construction projects require the conduct of an environmental impact assessment before starting to minimize environmental impact of the project. Under ISO45001, Apeloa CDMO will carry our regular analysis and disclosure of environmental data. All this assessment leads to data-driven improvement of environmental protection standards in compliance with environmental laws and regulations and avoiding hidden environmental dangers.
Cleaner production with reduced energy use have become the guiding principles for Apeloa CDMO. Monitoring development and manufacturing activities for energy and carbon use has allowed the company to promote new energy and water conservation initiatives and reduce overall energy consumption. Apeloa CDMO has also been conducting research on new wastewater treatment technologies that can help to reduce wastewater discharge and treat it more efficiently.
Apeloa CDMO has also pushed for compliance with ISO 45001 which is an Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system requirement relating to OH&S performance. Apeloa CDMO employs a variety of approaches to protect workers against the harmful effects of any exposure through Personal Protective Units (PPUs) and isolation technologies. Apeloa also assesses new synthetic chemistry routes for high-risk steps or intermediates and plans new synthetic routes that avoid them entirely when possible. Through these practices, Apeloa CDMO has built a comprehensive EHS plan to protect its workers, facilities, and the environment.
